Jagua Tattoo FAQs
-
Jagua is a natural dye derived from the unripe fruit of the Genipa American plant. Jagua works by staining the top layer of the skin, creating a temporary ink that resembles the appearance of a real tattoo.
-
We recommend that you prepare your skin by cleaning, *shaving, and exfoliating the area you wish to get your tattoo on before coming to the salon. Please avoid applying sunscreen or any creams to the area. This helps to ensure that the jagua ink adheres well and stains evenly.
*Please shave a day prior to your temporary tattoo appointment to avoid any skin irritation.
-
The Jagua ink doesn’t just wash off. It takes a few hot showers and washing for Jagua to be completely removed. This is what makes it suitable for long lasting temporary tattoos.
-
Depending on where you get the tattoo, it can last for up to 2 weeks. The tattoo gradually fades over the two weeks and eventually fully washes off.
-
To prolong the tattoo, avoid excessive moisture, friction, and exposure to sunlight. Keep the tattoo dry, clean, and moisturised with a gentle, alcohol-free lotion.
-
Jagua is generally considered safe for most people when used as directed. However, some individuals may experience skin reactions or allergies. We perform a patch test for all our clients beforehand. Kindly book a patch test 24 hours before your tattoo appointment.
-
It typically takes 30 minutes to an hour for a jagua tattoo to dry completely.
-
No, currently Jagua only comes in one colour. The colour can vary from time to time depending on the fruit it was sourced from.
-
The visibility of a Jagua tattoo varies based on individual skin and the quality of the gel. Always allow for 24-48 hours for the tattoo to fully develop.
-
Jagua can show up on dark skin although it may appear less intense and requires longer drying time and sometimes additional layers for a more vivid appearance.
